Australian individuals and business are currently taking their own action to reduce emissions and prevent climate change. They are buying GreenPower and carbon offsets, installing rooftop solar and using energy more efficiently. Under the federal government’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS), all of these important actions will lose almost any impact on Australia’s overall carbon emissions.
Australians are taking ‘voluntary action’ independent of the federal government in many ways. Individuals and businesses are buying GreenPower and carbon offsets in order to reduce their emissions. Some large businesses have managed to achieve ‘carbon neutrality’ through the purchase of GreenPower and carbon offsets.
Under the CPRS, very few of these actions will have an impact on Australia’s emissions. Almost any voluntary action will simply free up emissions permits for someone else (probably a heavy polluter) to produce more emissions, and more cheaply.
You can take action now by signing our petition to politicians calling on them to fix this problem now.

- Ask your local council to pass a motion supporting a change in the CPRS. Local councils are working hard to reduce emissions, and shoud be encouraged to continue this effort.
